Singapore, 9 January 2013 – To many, Republic Polytechnic (RP) may not be the first school they would consider when asked to choose a school to further their tertiary education because it is a very new school and people think that we do not offer them what they are looking for.

However this year, through the unique methods of running the open house and devoted volunteers, we not only captured the attention of numerous but also showed a brand new side of Republic Polytechnic, leaving the visitors with nothing but full of compliments for the school.

It is just a like an exhibition! Very different from the other schools!” quoted Mdm Lisa Teo, a mother who was at the open house with her son.

In the midst of the crowd of visitors was an ex-student, Nian Ru, 20 who mentioned this year’s open house was different from the previous years because she found it to be more engaging, the volunteers and facilitators were more than willing to step out of their comfort zone and engage in conversations, providing first hand information to those who are interested.

When asked which booths left the deepest impression she said that “SOH has always been very interesting because they have the banners and they walk around with it, they also give out free food and drinks!”

Apart from the public, we have many enthusiastic and potential secondary students who came for the open house as well, one of the students was Nur Syafiqah Binte Abdul Rashid, 16 expressed her interest in joining the RP family. “I will definitely include RP in my top 5 choices! The booths all showed that the courses are very interesting and this would be a place I would want to study in”.

More than 2000 student volunteers and leaders came together to put together this successful 3 days long event. Brindha Poobalasingam, 19 a student from DMC (diploma in mass communication) shared that she felt her presence made a difference as she was able to provide useful advice to the those who are interested in her course since she is currently also a student pursuing her diploma.

Despite the long hours, our dedicated volunteers stayed enthusiastic with welcoming smiles even up to the last minute of the open house. Their commitment definitely made a difference!

“The volunteers are really friendly and helpful especially the hospitality volunteers, they provided my children and me with a lot of information about the course” said Mdm Angie Ng, a mother who came with her 2 children.

Most exciting booth in Open house 2013

Countless did not hesitate to say that the booth of Sonic Arts in the School of Technology and Arts was the most happening booth in the open house 2013. With high-tech gadgets, a live DJ set and a stage with non-stop upbeat performances, the students of Sonic Arts definitely left a deep impression on countless people who came for the open house.

One of the many bands who performed was ‘Tie-dye”, a group of young passionate musicians with talents that left many of the audience dazzled and inspired. It was hard to believe that this was their first time performing in front of an audience given their wonderful stage presence and professionalism.

Janella Ang, the lead singer, guitarist of the band and a student studying Sonic Arts mentioned that this open house opened a door for her to try something different. The keyboardist of ‘Tie-Dye’, Matthew Chong also said that this opportunity allowed him to gain very new experiences and greater exposure to the performing arts.
