Rain or shine, it goes on

Needless to say, working alongside with a PR agency for the Singapore Night Festival  2013 project was an eye opening experience. One of the key takeaways to be a good PR practitioner is to always be on your feet. Nothing is bound to be perfect. Sometimes, despite all the hard effort and intrinsic planning, plans can still backfire.  When things take a turn, you just have to re-plan and execute – even if it means doing that on the spot.

Captivated: Media representatives gathered at the rotunda of the national museum of Singapore to appreciate poem put together in the form of foil balloons titled 'Everlast' by SooKoon Ang.

Dancing with shadows: A member of the Compagnie Retouramont performing the Vertical Extraction -  casting  her shadow over the building of National Museum of Singapore with a spotlight behind her , showcasing not only her sharp moves but amplifying  her elegance with her shadow as well.

A little goes a long way: Wide smiles, directing, ushering and a little bow may not seem much to many but to the some, it is more than enough. Shameera (left) tirelessly greeting and ushering a media representative into the museum, directing her to where the next item would be showcasing.

Eye for detail: Cherie - one of the in-charge of Singapore Night Festival 2013 checking and making sure with her fellow colleague that all the points, even the tiniest are in place and good to go. Taking care of the slightest detail ensuring that the event is able to run as smoothly as possible.

Working hard: The team from Republic Polytechnic’s Media Lab meet regularly to discuss and share ideas for the project. Besides the experiences, the two months long project has equipped them with media story pitching skills and an insight to how press conferences work.

The day has finally arrived: The media preview happened on two Wednesdays consecutively.

No room for mistakes: In PR, it is important to ensure everything is in its right place. Its the smallest details that counts. The media kit was checked thoroughly by the PR Agency to ensure everything is perfect before distributing it to the media representatives.

Go the extra mile: Old school snacks are prepared for the media to munch on as they wait for the press conference.

The VIP treatment: Even the founder of the PR agency, Ethan, works hard to ensure that the media has got everything they need, including drinks.

Impressing the media: One of the most compelling acts of Singapore Night Festival 2013 is Magic Babe Ning and J.C. Sum. It is only natural that they were invited for the media preview line up.

Making it work through the gloom: Unfortunately it was a wet Wednesday. No frets, cause umbrellas are prepared! At the end of the day, it’s not how the media preview runs that will be remembered most, it’s the bond, the treatment you give them,” said Ethan.

Summary
This photo story was put together based on my experience as a student helper for the Singapore Night Festival Media Preview 2013.

I worked along side with my team from Republic Polytechnic to serve as a student helper along side with the PR agency - TTG Asia who organized the festival.

Singapore Night Festival came to scene in 2008 and has a range of activities from visual to performing art, theatre, music and live installations that many attendees look forward to annually.

This photo story depicts my learning experience during the media preview from preparing media kits to engaging and guiding the media representatives throughout the tour and finally doing a post evaluation of the event.
